Candida Sousa Lima Fernandes, 88 of Lincoln, Rhode Island passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024 surrounded by her children. She was the wife of the late Antonio Monteiro Fernandes.
Candida was born July 16, 1936 in Fogo, Cabo Verde to her parents Manuel Lima Monteiro and Maria Viera Fontes da Veiga. After immigrating to the US in 1974 she worked for the children's clothing company Health Tex.
Candida is remembered for her love of her family, the Bible, telenovelas and the casino. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and sister.
Candida is preceded in death by her daughter Valentina Fernandes, brothers Cesar Lima Monteiro, Rudolfo Lima Monteiro, Francisco Manuel Fontes, and Justimiano Lima Monteiro and survived by her sister Maria Monteiro Rosa and brothers Pedro Lima Monteiro, Joao Lenivelt Monteiro and Sidonio Lima Monteiro.
Candida is survived by her children Fernando Fernandes, Carmencita Andrade, Franklin Fernandes, Maria Barbosa and Felix Fernandes. She will be missed by her grandchildren Jared Fernandes, Jesse Fernandes, Aaron Andrade, Andrew Andrade, Franklin Fernandes Jr., Cynthia Fernandes, Fenix Fernandes, Sarah Perez, Amanda Barbosa, Isabel Barbosa, Shyne Fernandes and Synsere Fernandes, and many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, friends and family.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 4pm-7pm at the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave. Lincoln, RI. Her funeral will begin on Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Keefe Funeral Home at 10am followed by a funeral home service starting at 11:30am. Burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, RI.
